Day-to-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Windhoek(1 night)

Welcome to Windhoek, Namibia’s capital! While it may be small, with a population of just 2.5 million, Windhoek is the heart of this vast country. Located in the central highlands, it’s the perfect starting point for your adventure.


On the way: Your guide will greet you and provide your travel documents and welcome pack. Take some time to get acquainted and discuss the exciting journey ahead.


When you’re there: After check-in at your B&B, the rest of the day is free for exploration. Visit Namibia’s oldest cathedral, Christ Church, or the National Museum of Namibia to gain insight into the city's history. If you feel like shopping, you can browse local stores or relax with a refreshing drink. Your guide can also show you the must-see spots around town.

Day 2: Kalahari(1 night)

Next, we venture into the Kalahari Desert, a unique and vast sandy landscape that isn’t classified as a true desert due to its rainfall. This fascinating region is home to iconic black-maned Kalahari lions.


On the way: After breakfast, take a final stroll in Windhoek before heading south on a 3-4 hour drive to the Kalahari (approximately 245 km).


When you’re there: Upon arrival, immerse yourself in the tranquil beauty of the Kalahari. Explore the stunning dunes and learn about the local Bushman culture, the area’s first settlers. You can also enjoy a game or nature drive.

Day 3: Fish River Canyon(1 night)

Today’s journey takes you to one of Namibia’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, Fish River Canyon. The drive, roughly 7-8 hours (440 km), promises to be unforgettable.

On the way: After leaving the Kalahari, your journey south takes you through Mariental and Keetmanshoop. Stop to admire the Quiver Tree Forest and the eerie Giant’s Playground, both unique geological marvels.


When you’re there: Marvel at Fish River Canyon, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. Watch the sun set over this expansive ravine and keep an eye out for the endemic Nama padloper tortoise.

Day 4 & 5: Luderitz(2 nights)

Next stop: Luderitz, a coastal gem surrounded by the vast Namib Desert.


On the way: The 5-6 hour (385 km) drive from Fish River Canyon to Luderitz includes a chance to spot wild desert horses near Aus, a mysterious herd with an intriguing history.


When you’re there: Luderitz, once a thriving diamond town, offers a fascinating glimpse into Namibia’s mining past. Explore the historical Kolmanskop ghost town and its well-preserved architecture.

Day 6 & 7: Sossusvlei(2 nights)

Journey into the heart of the Namib Desert to experience the giant sand dunes of Sossusvlei.


On the way: After breakfast, head north towards Sossusvlei, taking a scenic 7-8 hour drive (505 km) through Helmeringhausen.


When you’re there: The towering dunes at Sossusvlei, some over 300 meters high, are millions of years old. Visit iconic spots like Dune 45, Big Daddy, and Dead Vlei. For a truly unforgettable experience, consider a hot air balloon ride or a nature drive through the desert.

Day 8 & 9: Swakopmund(2 nights)

Head to Swakopmund, a coastal town with a rich colonial history, founded as the main harbor during the German colonial era.


On the way: The drive from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund takes about 5-6 hours (350 km), passing through Solitaire and the Tropic of Capricorn, a perfect photo opportunity. You can also take a detour through the Welwitschia Plains, home to ancient living fossils.


When you’re there: Swakopmund offers a variety of activities such as dune quad biking, dolphin cruises, and sandboarding. A visit to Sandwich Harbour is a must to witness where towering sand dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 10 & 11: Damaraland(2 nights)

From Swakopmund, travel to Damaraland, a vast and remote landscape teeming with wildlife and ancient rock art.


On the way: Your journey takes you along the Skeleton Coast, where you’ll visit the Cape Cross Seal colony. Stop at the Lichen Fields and a shipwreck before heading north to the Twyfelfontein rock art site.


When you’re there: Damaraland is home to desert-adapted elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and more. Visit the Damara Living Museum to learn about the traditional ways of life in this area.

Day 12: Etosha National Park – South(1 night)

Today, you’ll head to Etosha, one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations. The drive takes about 4-5 hours (325 km).


On the way: Stop at the Petrified Forest, a unique site where ancient trees have turned to stone. Continue on to Etosha's southern entrance, Anderson Gate.


When you’re there: If time allows, take an afternoon game drive into Etosha. The park is home to an incredible variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, and flamingos.

Day 13 & 14: Etosha National Park – East(2 nights)

Enjoy full days exploring the eastern part of Etosha National Park, famous for its incredible wildlife sightings.

When you’re there: You can opt for both morning and afternoon game drives or enjoy a packed lunch while exploring. Consider a guided safari for a more in-depth experience.

Day 15: Central Namibia(1 night)

End your journey in central Namibia, where you may have the opportunity to spot a cheetah.


On the way: Travel 315 km (4-5 hours) south, passing through Otavi and Otjiwarongo. You may stop at Okonjima, home of the Africat Foundation, where you can learn about efforts to protect cheetahs and other endangered species.


When you’re there: At Okonjima, enjoy a variety of activities focused on conservation and wildlife.
